Pateros creates new school, playground speed zones

Posted

PATEROS – City council members repealed a section of the Pateros Municipal Code (PMC) in order to create a school and playground speed zone on designated streets that border a marked school or playground within the city as its regular monthly meeting on Nov. 18.

Members voted to repeal Section 10.04.100, Speed Limit on State Route 97, and created new Section 10.04.105 School and Playground Zones which set a speed limit of 20 miles per hour (mph) on the following streets:

• Ives Street from its intersection with North Street southwest to its intersection with Stadium Way;

• North Street from its intersection with Ives Street southeast to its intersection with Warren Avenue West;

• Beach Street from its intersection with North Street southwest to its intersection with Stadium Way;

•  Stadium Way; and

• Chris Street.

Section 10.04.110 Playground Speed Zone applies to Lakeshore Drive West from its intersection with Commercial Street northeast to its intersection with Dawson Street South.

Appropriate signage designating said speed zones and speed limits will be placed long the designated streets.

In other business, members acted on several resolutions, postponed others and postponed two of three public hearings. Approved was a resolution to establish a small public works roster process to award public works contracts, a consulting services roster for architectural, engineering, and other professional services, and a vender roster for goods and services not related to public works contracts.

In a vote related to the decision to move forward with the MRSC Rosters, council members repealed a section of the PMC dealing with Small Works Roster deemed no longer necessary.

City Administrator Jord Wilson reported that the city took delivery of a new Bobcat 5600 4x4 side-by-side from Rowes Tractor in East Wenatchee. Wilson said park restrooms and the Ives Landing dump station have been closed for the winter.

Results from an Oct. 15 Department of Health sanitary survey of the city water system came back with the welcome news that no significant deficiencies were found during the survey. A latter from the DOH Regional Engineer said in part: “I appreciate the City’s attention to detail in the management and operation of the water system. Your commitment to public health protection is evident.”
