Pateros school hosts Thanksgiving dinner

Posted

PATEROS – The public is invited to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with Pateros School students on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the school commons area.
Elementary students will be served from 10:30-11:30 a.m. followed by junior high and high school students from 11:40 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The cost is $4.25 for adults and $2.60 for children.
Linda Ehlenbach, District Executive Administrative Assistant said the school has been hosting the annual Thanksgiving dinner for  almost a decade and the turnout appears to get larger every year.
“It gives parents, grandparents siblings, young and old to share a meal with a student,” said Ehlenbach, “but even those with no children in the school are welcome to attend,”
Pateros school head cook, Susie Bowles, who began cooking for school following the 2014 Carlton Complex wildfire, estimates last year’s crowd approached 350 people.
“It’s the largest single meal event of our year,” Bowles said.
Bowles plans to handle the cooking preparations with help from her assistants and perhaps one volunteer. Included in the menu will be turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn or baked beans and mini-pies prepared on site.
Those planning to have Thanksgiving dinner at the school are requested to call ahead at 923-2343.
