Primary election narrows field for November final

OKANOGAN – While official certification of the August 7 primary election will not be available until Tuesday, August 21, preliminary figures have narrowed a few crowded fields down to two candidates who will square off for the general election in November.
The numbers that follow reflect the latest Okanogan County count as of Friday, August 10.
The most crowded local contest was for Okanogan County Sheriff where six candidates, Kevin Newport, Court Creighton, Michael Blake, Jeff Koplin, Anthony Hawley, and Steve Brown campaigned for the top badge. Preliminary results showed Hawley with 2,007 votes or 28.57 percent and Brown with 1,544 (21.98 %) as the clear leaders.
For Congressional District 4 U.S. Representative, Incumbent Dan Newhouse (R) collected 4,688 votes (62.79%) and challenger Christine Brown 2,778 (37.21%).
In the race for State Senator District 1, Incumbent Shelly Short (R) captured 3,057 votes (69.89%) to 1,317 votes (30.11%) for challenger Karen Hardy (D).
Incumbent Jacquelin Maycumber (R) grabbed nearly three-quarters of the Okanogan County votes, 2,995 (71.24%) over challenger Randall Michaelis (D) 1,209 votes (28.76%) for State Representative District 7, Position 1.
Incumbent Joel Kretz (R), with more than 70 percent of the votes (3,051,) held a comfortable over nearest challenger Crystal Oliver (D) 576 votes, (13.29%) in the race for State Representative, District 7, Position 2.
In the race for Legislative District 12 State Representative Position 1, Ann Diamond (D) polled 1,483 votes (43.52%) and Keith Goehner (R) 1,064 (31.22%) advanced.
Incumbent Mike Steele (R) leads in the race for Legislative District 12 State Representative, Position 2, with 1,739 votes (52.3%) and Varerie Sarratt (D) with 1,084 votes (32.6%).
Pateros resident Arian Noma (R) garnered 4,417 votes (58.96%) to incumbent Brandan Platter’s (D) 3.075 (41.04%) for Okanogan County Prosecutor.
In the contest for Okanogan County Auditor, Cari Hall (R) received 3,645 votes (58.52%) against fellow Republican Randy Gates’ 2,584 votes (41.48%).
The following are the latest Douglas County results as of August 13:
Congressional District 8 U.S. Representative
Dino Rossi (R) – 1,859 votes (55.51%)
Kim Schrier (D) – 477 votes (14.24%)
County Commissioner District 3
Marc Straub – 1,424 votes (62.95%)
Norman Tupling – 838 votes (37.05%)
Douglas County Sheriff
Kevin Morris – 4,502 votes (63.89%)
Leeon Leyde – 2,554 votes (36.2%)
Douglas County results will be certified on Tuesday, August 21.
