Early in February, Pateros sixth grade students on the Math is Cool team traveled to Wenatchee to complete in the annual Math Is Cool Competition.
More than 300 sixth graders from 16 middle school in the greater Central Washington area gathered to test their skills in Mathematics and Team Cooperation.
Five groups of four students each applied their minds to Mental Math, an Individual Event, two Team Competitions, a Relay Race, and a Knowledge Bowl.
With coaches Ms. Hartwich and Mrs. Hixon, the Pateros competitors got the opportunity to challenge themselves while they checked out Orchard Middle School.
Coach Hartwich said her students practiced and prepared for the trip.
“Like the slogan on their purple team shirts, they were ‘plotting something,’” Hartwich said.
