Joan Hanford

Posted

Joan Margaret (Beard) Hanford, longtime resident of Bridgeport passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Regency Wenatchee after a seven year battle with ovarian cancer.  She was surrounded by all her loving family.

She was born December 26, 1929 in Waterville, Wash. to Clay Charles Beard and Beryl DeAtley Beard.  She was raised at the family ranch at the head of McNeil Canyon, west of Mansfield.  She attended Mud Spring School through 8th grade and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1947.  After attending Washington State College for one semester she married Harry “Lee” Hanford on January 9, 1948.  They made their home in the Bridgeport area as wheat and cattle ranchers.

As a young woman she was active in Junior Women, Eastern Star, Garden Club, Leahy Homemakers, and was a bowler for many years.  Most importantly she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and “GG”.  Always most comfortable in her yard and garden or as a cowgirl, she lived life to the fullest.  In 2011 cancer forced her and Harr Lee to relocate to care facilities in Chelan.

She is survived by son Lee J. Hanford of Bridgeport., and daughter Jo (Marshall) Miller of Chelan, two grandsons Charles (Jenna) of Pateros, and Jordan (Rachel) of Wenatchee, two very special great-grandsons, Henry Lee and Remington Hays Miller of Pateros.

Special thanks to Regency, both in Chelan and Wenatchee for their loving care of Joan, and to the Confluence Health oncology doctors and nurses.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance House, 207 Pontius Ave. N, Seattle, WA. 98109, or a charity of your choice.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 1 p.m., at Bridgeport High School Commons, with inurnment following at the Bridgeport Cemetery.  A celebration of Joan’s life will immediately follow at the Central Building in Pateros at 3 p.m.
