David Fenner to speak at Brewster Public Library

Posted

BREWSTER – David Fenner, an affiliate faculty member at the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies, will be the featured speaker at the Brewster Public Library at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25.

Fenner is one among eight scholars appearing at North Central Regional Libraries (NCRL) around the region this fall as part of the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau programs. Scholars will discuss a wide range of topics including ancient food, feminism, race relations and other topics in the fields of history, politics, music, philosophy, and more.

Fenner’s topic, The Long Haul: Stories of Human Migration, will focus on the movement homo sapiens around the planet for the past 200,000-plus years. Sometimes drawn, sometimes driven by a host of man-made forces, mankind has confronted floods, drought, conflict, crop failure and other disasters in “the quest for survival or the hope of a better future,” an NCRL media release said.

Established in 1960, the North Central Regional Library (NCRL) was established in 1960 to provide public library service to more than 250,000 people in Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Grant, and Okanogan counties. The library's 14,497 square-mile service area comprises about one-fifth of Washington State's land-surface area. Geographically, NCRL is the largest library in Washington State.
