DCRC funds will complete paving

BRIDGEPORT – A project that began a few years ago with a $264,000 grant to the City of Bridgeport from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) should be completed or nearly so by June 1 as crews from a Wenatchee construction firm continue their work near the boat launch at the west end of the city.

The new Conklin Landing RV Park, a Douglas PUD project on a block of land adjacent to Columbia Avenue and bordered by Second Street on the east side and the treatment plant road on the west side, is taking shape as crews from Hurst Construction improve the site.

The new RV park will include 17 full hookup sites with a few originally earmarked for paving to comply with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, but a recent infusion of funds from the city will allow all 17 to be paved.

The City of Bridgeport redirected grant funds to purchase an electronic reader board at city hall to the Conklin Landing project to allow the PUD to cover the costs of paving all 17 of the RV spaces.

Last fall Bridgeport mayor Janet Conklin applied for a portion of $175,000 available from the Douglas County Regional Council (DCRC) to install the reader board. DCRC approved $40,000 to cover the costs of the project.

When the mayor learned that the reader board would not meet Association of Washington Cities (AWC) requirements, she received the go-ahead to apply the funds toward the RV park improvements.

Landscaping and plantings will be added and once secure the site will be open for reservations at a date still to be determined.

The Douglas PUD Board of Commissioners meeting last March 25 authorized a change order to modify two of the RV spaces to conform with requirements of the Architectural Barriers Act, and to pave all 17 of the spaces.
