BREWSTER – The Brewster Boys and Girls Club is hosting a fundraiser for a young Brewster Elementary School student and cancer patient who is currently undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital in Seattle.

The BBGC is signing up teams for the Hero’s Dodgeball Tournament scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 18 in the BBGC gym. Funds raised through donations from those attending the event will go to the family of 10-year-old Brewster fifth grader Yahir Corona who suffered a bone cancer relapse following recent completion of treatment for the disease.

Yahir’s father, Orlando Corona has been a volunteer for BBGC youth activities.

“Orlando volunteered two to three times a week to teach soccer fundamentals to club kids,” said BBGC interim director Heather Carrington.

The Club is reaching out to volunteers from the school, fire department, police, EMT, hospital and other service and community ranks for six-person dodgeball teams to sign up by Thursday, Oct. 11. Dodgeball is one of the most popular sports among BBGC youngsters.

“We have a few teams signed up already,” said Carrington who has been distributing flyers for the fundraiser.

Entry to the event is by donation and concessions will be available.
