Perfect conditions for a ride

Large turnout powers annual Mansfield Snowmobile Run

MANSFIELD – Unlike last year’s overcast sky and stiff wind conditions, this year’s annual Mansfield Sportman Club Snowmobile Run was greeted with perfect sunny weather and ideal conditions for a day out in the open with fellow enthusiasts last Sunday, March 3.

The doors to the club house located along Highway 172 a mile west of Mansfield opened at 9 a.m. for riders to register and purchase their poker hands for $20 per and extra cards for $5 each. As the clock ticked toward the noon cutoff time, the parking lot filled with vehicles and trailers as nearly 200 participants signed in to take part in the annual event.

The course running over a shallow but ample layer of snow included several rural road crossings along its westward course toward the lip of McNeil Canyon, then north through a dog leg route and back east toward the club house. Along the way riders had access to refreshment stops as they picked up playing cards to complete poker hands and determine the run winners. The contestants with the three best poker hands won cash prizes.

Josh and Brittney McIntosh from Wenatchee packed up son Owen, 8, and daughter Karlee, 6, for their first ever visit to the Mansfield winter event. Dad, Josh said they have ridden in the Colockum Wildlife Area near home, but this was their first look at the Mansfield course. The family brought three snowmobiles, one each for Owen and his Dad and the third for Karlee and Brittney. Odds are better than even that they will be back next year.
