Posted

BREWSTER – The second annual Las Posadas, a Mexican Christmas tradition of caroling and candles that reenacted the journey of Joseph and Mary seeking and eventually finding shelter in a stable played out on Main Street last Saturday evening, Dec. 8.

More than two dozen participants carrying lighted candles departed from The Armory at 5:30 p.m. and journeyed from business to business on both sides of Main Street, eventually concluding at the Senior Center on Bridge Street. Along the way the group sang carols at each stop from Mi Pueblo near the west end of town to the Brewster Public Library at the east end.

Hot chocolate and tamales awaited the caravan as they arrived at the Senior Center where an appreciative gathering of well-wishers welcomed them.

Las Posadas was organized by Manny and Martin Hurtado with help from the Brewster Chamber of Commerce, and donations from the following sponsors: Anna Marie Dalbey, Apply Valley Wireless, Armory, Boys and Girls Club Brewster, Brewster Bear Basket, Brewster Market Place and Pharmacy, Brewster Quick Lube, El Triunfo 2nd Hand Store, Gebbers Farms, La Milpa, Los Reyes, Mauk Fishing Stuff , Mi Pueblo- Mexican Grill, Pedro De La Cerda, Senior Center Brewster, Bridgeport and Websters Furniture.
