Capital Levy passage is good news for Pateros School District

PATEROS – Good news at the April 29 regular meeting of the school board of directors included passage of the Capital Levy in the April 23 special election.

Superintendent Greg Goodnight and principal Mike Hull delivered a Pateros Does It Right slideshow.

Seventy-seven students made the third quarter Honor Roll.

Osvaldo Anaya from the Class of 2019 shared a slideshow prepared by Andrea Baird that showed the activities, fun, events and scenery the senior enjoyed on its recent trip to Ocean Shores.

In other business, the annual facility tour has been scheduled during the next regular board meeting on May 28. The meeting will start at 5:45 p.m. to allow time for the tour.

Board members discussed new information regarding the rezone of the eight-acre parcel north of town.

Following the discussion, the board approved a motion to press ahead with the request to change the zoning from light industrial to public use.

A sale of obsolete school items was approved. The items will first be made available to public and private schools for purchase. Remaining items will be delegated to the community wide yard sale on June 8.

Scotti Wiltse, Clara Oborne, and Jim Broome presented the School Improvement Plan developed by the District Action Team.  Per the official minutes of the meeting those four improvement goals were outlined:

1. All staff will document vertical alignment of their power standards by June 2020.

2. Staff will continue to implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) through PBIS and Leader in Me and review office referral trends to insure effectiveness. The emphasis will switch to Leader in Me with PBIS on a maintenance level only.

3. Staff will strengthen their teaching practice through Learning Walks and reflection.   

4. The district will continue to develop and implement a MTSS (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome) model.  

The next regular meeting of the Pateros School Board is May 28 at 5:45 p.m.
