Eighth grade girls achieve perfect two-season, 20-0 record

BRIDGEPORT – The future does indeed look bright for Bridgeport High School varsity girls’ basketball if the competition record of its upcoming core of eighth-grade players maintains the pace they have established for the past two years.
The young stars have remained undefeated over the past two seasons, bringing home a perfect 10-0 winning record in 2015 and repeating with a second perfect 10-0 mark in 2016.
“I don’t think they have lost an AAU game since third grade,” said Bridgeport Athletic Director, Scott Darwood.
Team members are Miriam Jimenez, Esmerelda Cancino, Bianca Torres, Becky Hernandez, Anissa Bustos, Alexia Hurtado, Jaqueline Lombera, Maria Santana, Monica Trejo, Citlaly Guzman, Karla Torres and Neomi Roa.
The young sharpshooters played in the Okanogan Highlands League against Brewster, Oroville, Tonasket, Omak, Okanogan, Liberty Bell and Lake Roosevelt.
The 12 eighth graders are not only standouts on the court but also hold their own in academics at a school that takes great pride in the educational excellence of its students.
“We are pretty proud of these girls on their on-court accomplishments,” said Darwood, “and coach Sattler and his assistants are pretty proud of the fact that they are all pretty good students in the classroom as well.”
