Pateros High School sends 16 into the world

PATEROS – The senior class of Pateros High School, 16 strong, held its graduation ceremonies at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2.
Graduates Douglas Viebrock and Osvaldo Trevino delivered the welcome address.
The Recognition of Generation Graduates including Gavin Asmussen whose father, Tom Asmussen was a member of the 1989 graduating class.
Macayla Buchmann, a fourth-generation grad, was preceded by great grandmother Ailsa Armstrong Peterson, class of 1940, grandfather Bill Meadows, class of 1959, grandmother Rebecca Luft Meadows and grandfather Scott Humphrey, class of 1969, and mother Scotti Humphrey Wiltse, class of 1991.
Litzy Gomez and Cameron Quinn were High Honors graduates with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.8 or greater. Along with Gomez and Quinn, Logan Robinson made the Superintendent’s List with a GPA of 3.75-4.0
Graduates who made the Principal’s List with a GPA of 3.5-3.74 included Ryan Allgood, Yamile Ascencion, Madison Ervin, and Guadalupe Martinez.
Graduating from Wenatchee Valley College with their AA degrees were Allgood, Ascencion, Gomez, and Quinn.
Gomez and Quinn were class Valedictorians.
Martinez emceed the student slide show and thank-you to parents.
Vanessa Taylor presented the John Taylor Memorial Athletic Scholarship to Logan Robinson.
Yamile Ascencion received the $2,500 Arlene Birdsell Martin Teaching Scholarship through the Community Foundation of North Central Washington (CFNCW). The scholarship was established at CFNCW 1999 for Mrs. Martin who taught high school in Pullman before moving to Wenatchee where she served as head of the WVC English Department. The award supports WVC graduating seniors with special emphasis on those pursuing a teaching certificate, enrolled in a four-year college with preference given to English majors.
CFNCW scholarship winners included Ascencion, $2,500, Litzy Gomez, $2,500, Gavin Asmussen, $1.500, and Logan Robinson, $1,500. Robinson also received the George Washington Foundation Scholarship for $1,050.
Gomez and Ascencion were recipients of the University of Idaho Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship that represented a savings of $13,704.
The Pateros Scholarship Fund\, created in 2013 to replace Pateros Dollars for Scholars, is managed by CFNCW and has thus far awarded 221 scholarships for a total dollar value of $181,950. Memorials to the funds have been presented in the names of Velma Bryant, Lorraine Brownlee Gilden, Ralph Hagenbuch, Tim Hiltz, Betty Neal Keck, Joanna Burnett Lambert, Art Nordang, Kathleen (Chick) Pryor, Butch Rogahn, John Taylor, and Wynn Webster.
Pateros Superintendent Dr. Lois Davies, Principal Mike Hull, and Marty Robinson of the Board of Directors presented the graduates with their diplomas.
