Pateros Senior Project kicks off Community Roots observance

Posted

PATEROS – The first official event to kick off five days of activities in observance of Earth/Arbor Day in Pateros was a Senior Project inspired by Pateros High School seniors Jahaira Hernandez and classmate Alondra Hernandez (no relation).

To celebrate Community Roots, the week-long schedule of beautification, planting, and cleaning projects in town and at Alta Lake State Park, the senior duo decided to organize the Community Clean-Up to get the ball rolling.

The girls had to first submit their idea in a project packet that had to get the approval of a school counselor before proceeding. They also posted a sign-up sheet calling for volunteers and enlisted Pateros City Administrator Jord Wilson as their project mentor. If anyone knows where and what needs cleaning in Pateros, it’s Wilson.

Following the actual clean-up activities, the girls will write a report about everything that went into the organization, preparation, supervision and completion of the undertaking for final approval by school advisors.

Earth/Arbor Day will conclude with an afternoon observance starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, in Memorial Park. Pateros is one of 90 designated Tree Cities in the state.
