Johanson Manson v. Johanson Brewster

BREWSTER – For the first time in years the Brewster Bears were the underdogs and on the road to face the Central Washington 2B League leading Manson Trojans in the final game of the regular season last Friday, Oct. 27. Adding to the drama was a showdown between head coaching brothers, Jake Johanson of Brewster and Joey Johanson of Manson.
There was much on the line for the 6-1 Trojans who fought to maintain its hold on the CWB top spot against the attack of the 5-2 Bears anxious to even the league win-loss stats at 6-2 for both teams. In the end, Manson pulled out a 28-6 win to end its season 7-1 with the CWB title.
Coming off consecutive wins over Soap Lake (42-13), Bridgeport (56-10), 2016 league champion Tonasket (24-21), and Waterville (50-16), two of those on the road, the Bears made a strong comeback from 1-2 season start.
“Manson was ready and brought it from the beginning,” said coach Johanson and noted that the Bears failed to take advantage of a couple of forced turnovers
“We weren’t able to run the ball effectively,” said Johanson who pointed to some dropped balls that interfered with continuing drives.
The Bears finished the regular season in a three-way tie with Oroville and Tonasket for third place.
“We have to bounce back and head down to Tri Cities Prep in the crossover,” said Johanson. “A win there would put us in the playoffs.”
