“Gentlemen, stop your engines!”

PATEROS – Wildfire smoke turned out to be the toughest competitor at the Terry Troxel Memorial Classic hydro races held last Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20 on Lake Pateros. The racers completed their heats under smoky conditions on Saturday but those worsened on Sunday until local EMS personnel called the race at 1:15 p.m. when the air quality continued to deteriorate.
Sunday’s activities concluded with the awards presentation. The Terry Troxel Memorial Trophy went to Bartels Family Racing. The Jim Yancy Youth Inspirational Award was presented to Katie Brown.

Elsewhere at the venue Okanogan Angels found new homes for several dogs available for adoption. The non-profit had the canines on display in the Pateros-Brewster Community Resource Center building on Pateros Mall.

One of the adoptees, in fact, came for the races and left with a dog.

Amanda Edwin of Covington paid a side visit to the Angels kennels and found “Minnie,” a female pit bull terrier that will be spayed before joining Edwin after about a month of recovery.
