Unsettled Returns

Posted

On May 19, 20, and 21, Dangerous Women return to Leavenworth to present an updated encore of their acclaimed, original show, “Unsettled.”

The most diverse theatrical production ever staged in Central Washington, Unsettled played to sold out crowds and standing ovations in 2022 at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts. This year, the show will again take audiences back to pioneer times when Caucasian, African American and Latina women moved into the landscape. Indigenous cast and creators return to represent the viewpoint of first peoples who have lived in North Central Washington for over ten thousand years.

Narrated by The Moon in spoken word and American Sign Language, the production features Indigenous prayer in the nxaʔamxčín dialect. Art forms include dance, drumming, song, rap, instrumentation, drama, humor, poetry, and storytelling. In addition, each Dangerous Women show features a backdrop of historic images from the Library of Congress. There are three new scenes, and the subtraction of two others as well as new cast members, clarifications, and costume enhancements.

Each Dangerous Women production is original, utilizing the talents of individual women to bring the results of deep historical research to life. Unsettled is the third of three themed productions created by the artist’s collective. The other two, “Spellbound” a celebration of mystical women, and “Victorious,” a chronicle of American women winning the right to vote, were staged in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Dangerous Women is directed and produced by Rhona Baron, an “edutainment” innovator and recipient of the Stanley Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts. The creator cast consists of visionary, creative women from around Washington Stage.

Tickets for couples are $52 and $28 for single with students $15. Purchase at www.icicle.org. or at the door. Call 509-548-6347 for more information.
