BREWSTER - In what coach Roger Boesel described as "the best game they may have played so far this season," Brewster's Lady Bears varsity basketball team built a 14-point first quarter lead into a 78-49 final score to defeat the visiting Lake Roosevelt Raiders last Thursday, Jan. 12.

Behind the early scoring of Sammi Emigh Brewster scored 18 points in the first quarter before Yvette Sanchez hit three, three-pointers in the second quarter to power the Bears to a 41-27 halftime lead. The Raiders did their best to keep pace with 12 points from three-point range in the second but could not overcome the opening quarter deficit to catch the Bears.

Earlier in the week Brewster squeaked by Waterville-Mansfield, 38-32 on Jan. 10, and lost a close non-league game to Chelan 38-36 on Jan. 14.

Brewster Boys

The Brewster boys kept their undefeated league streak intact with a 54-35 win over the Raiders following a slow start that saw the Bears trailing by one point at the end of the first quarter. Shots that would not go in combined with a good Lake Roosevelt defense made Brewster work for a 21-16 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter the Bears found their rhythm as they went on a 22-5 scoring run that put them in front for the rest of the game.

The Bears easily handled Waterville-Mansfield, 59-26 on Jan. 10, and added a non-league win over Chelan, 61-44 on Jan. 14.

Brewster cancelled its home game against Oroville for Tuesday, Jan. 17, and was scheduled to travel to Liberty Bell on Thursday, Jan. 19.

The Bears were scheduled to host Soap Lake on Saturday, Jan. 21 followed by Manson. Tuesday, Jan. 25.
