BREWSTER --- The undefeated 14-0 Brewster Bears boys' varsity basketball team combined solid defense with a penetrating offense to take a 14-point first quarter lead over visiting Tonasket last Friday, Jan. 27, and never let the Tigers back in the game for the rest of the night.

Behind the double-digit scoring of Edgar Najera with 21 points, and Joe Taylor with 18, Brewster distanced itself by nearly 40 points, 80-46, from the Tigers before the night was over.

The Bears led by 31 at halftime, 31 at the end of the third quarter and 34 at the buzzer.

Tonasket sophomore, Ethan Smith, was the only Tiger to score in double figures and led Tonasket with 15 points.

Brewster's only loss so far this season was a non-league 51-41 loss to Napavine, Dec. 29.

The Bears were scheduled to travel to Bridgeport on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and host Oroville for their final regular season game, Saturday, Feb. 4.

The Central Washington 2B League championship playoffs begin Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Bridgeport.
