BREWSTER - The league rival that came within three points of interrupting Brewster's undefeated streak last December, tried to do it again last Saturday, Feb. 4, as the Oroville Hornets took a first quarter lead but lost down the stretch, 57-46.
In a game that saw lots of contact and many trips to the free-throw line, the Hornets opened with a five-point, 15-10 lead as their aggressive defense kept the Bears from hitting many of their first quarter shots.
In the second quarter seven unanswered points from six-foot, five-inch sophomore Isaac Baker knotted the game at 23-all with just over three minutes remaining until halftime. David Garcia added seven points and Kade Kelpman hit for six in the second to give the Bears a nine-point, 33-24 lead at the half.
Oroville's Bryce Glover hit a pair of three-points and eight points from the foul line to lead the Hornets but they were never able to regain the second half momentum to do more than keep pace with the Bears who matched point for point to win by 11.

The Lady Bears had an easier time with the Lady Hornets taking a five-point lead in the first quarter and 15-14 advantage at halftime. A big 20-point third quarter put Brewster out of reach to a 41-29 final.
The Bears' varsity will lose five seniors this year, Edgar Guzman, Bryan Lopez, David Garcia, Edgar Najera, and Johnny Saucedo. The Lady Bears will have their entire team back next year.
The Lady Bears will meet the winner of Oroville-Liberty Bell on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the CW2B League playoffs in Bridgeport.
The Bears will play the winner of Manson-Soap Lake in the boys' CW2B championships at Bridgeport on Friday, Feb. 10.
