FFA to host fishing tournament

The Bridgeport FFA chapter will host the club's first trout fishing tournament this Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, beginning at 5 a.m. each day at Rufus Woods Lake behind Chief Joseph Dam.

Entry fee is $10; fish will be judged by weight. The top five placers will receive trophies and prizes. Participants must supply their own fishing equipment (and boats).

The tournament is a fundraiser; the FFA is raising money to take all 55 kids in the chapter to the annual state convention in May. People who want to register or who want more information can contact chapter advisor Nate Hahner at Bridgeport High School. 686-8770.

Eagles to sponsor St. Patrick's dinner Saturday

The Quad City Eagles will sponsor a dinner in honor of St. Patrick and all things Irish this Saturday, March 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Eagles lodge in Bridgeport.

The menu will feature corned beef or a rib steak; cost is $10. Dinner will be followed by "karaoke by Jerry," beginning at 8 p.m. Attendees must be members or bona fide guests.

Block watch meeting March 18

Participants in the Rocky Butte Block Watch program will hold their regular meeting Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at the Rocky Butte fire hall on Bridgeport Bar.

All interested persons, members or not, are being invited.

BREWSTER

Relay for Life fundraiser tomorrow

The local Relay for Life team will hold a fundraising bake sale tomorrow, Friday, March 13, beginning at 8 a.m. in the lobby at Okanogan Douglas Hospital.

The Relay for Life is held each spring; participants collect pledges and walk around the track at Okanogan High School for about 20 hours. All the money raised is donated to the American Cancer Society for research. The local team is still looking for participants; people who have questions or who want to join up can contact Janet Hanke, 689-3794, Brenda White, 689-2517 or Julie McKown, 689-2525.

Little League baseball signups next week

Signups for the spring Little League season - T-ball, minor and major Little League - will be next Monday through Wednesday, March 16 through 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. each night in the Brewster High School Commons.

Parents are asked to pay at registration and provide proof of insurance. Registration forms are available at Brewster Elementary School this week or will be available at signup.

Cinco de Mayo planning meeting scheduled

People who want to help with the Columbia Cove Community Center's annual "Party in the Park," the Cinco de Mayo celebration, are being asked to attend a planning meeting Tuesday, March 17, at 5:30 p.m. at the community center, 601 West Cliff Avenue in Brewster.

Participants will talk about possible events; all interested persons are being invited.

PATEROS

Doughnut pickup next Monday

People who purchased Krispy Kreme doughnuts from the Pateros Drama Club will be able to pick them up, dramatic flourish, Monday, March 16. Doughnuts also will be on sale that day.

The proceeds will go to the drama club to help pay for its production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," scheduled for later this spring.

REGIONAL

Concert to benefit WVC programs March 12

Local bands will be jammin' Thursday evening, March 12, to benefit the nursing program at Wenatchee Valley College at Omak. The concert will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the campus, 116 West Apple Avenue in Omak. The bands will be donating their time; admission will be by donation.

Originally designed to benefit the nursing program, the goal has been extended to include all programs on campus. The college faces a number of financial challenges in light of state budget shortfalls, which will reduce state support. A donation fund has been set up through the college's foundation. People who want to donate can send their check to the Omak Foundation, Box 1374, Omak, WA 98841.

OVOC season finale March 14

The Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus will present the annual spring concert, the finale for the 2008-09 season, Saturday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at the Omak Performing Arts Center at Omak High School.

The selections will include Hungarian folk music, selections by Handel and Beethoven; the chorus and orchestra will collaborate on selections from Verdi's opera La Traviata.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens and $8 for youths 12 to 18 years of age. Children less than 12 years of age are admitted free when they are accompanied by an adult.
