BREWSTER

Senior center seminar

A free seminar for seniors and their families and caregivers will be held from 11:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 30 at the Brewster-Bridgeport-Pateros Senior Center, 109 S. Bridge St. Topics will include giving and receiving support for the caregiver and how to prepare for a disaster. The seminar, to be presented by Bob Poindexter and Kathy Wright, is funded by Aging and Adult Care of Central Washington. Scottish Burns

The Brewster Adventist Christian School will hold its annual Scottish Burns Night in the school gym on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. The evening will include Scottish food, music and Scottish country dancing. Donations will be collected to support the grades 7-9 educational field trips fund. A silent auction will also be used to raise funds. All are welcome and for any questions, please call the school at 689-3213.

Chamber meeting

The Brewster Chamber will host its first meeting of 2013 at noon Tuesday, Feb. 5th in the conference room at Healthbeat Fitness Center on Main Street. Lunch will be catered by the Brewster Marketplace Deli. The meeting will be a meet and greet. The guest speaker will be Rob Dezellem, manager of Healthbeat Fitness Center. There will also be an opportunity for all who attend to update their business and current happenings. The Chamber board will present the 2013 Chamber calendar and give updates on upcoming events. Valentine's open house

An open house at the Brewster-Bridgeport-Pateros Senior Center will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. Come meet your friends, listen to music, visit and have a yummy dessert.

Legion pool tourney

American Legion Post 97 hosts its weekly pool tournament each Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There were eight players at the Jan. 20 tournament. Gale Nilsen won first place, Clarance Abrahamson took second place and Thea Nilsen won third.

SOS

Hurry on over to the Community Log Church every Wednesday for Bible stories, songs, snacks, games and much more fun! This opportunity is open to kids in kindergarten through sixth grades after school, from 3:15 to 5 p.m. The church is located at 209 S. 4th St.

HOSTS

The Brewster Elementary School HOSTS program is looking for mentors to work with students in reading. HOSTS is an acronym for "Help One Student To Succeed." Kids work one-on-one with a mentor for 45 minutes from Tuesday through Friday. It is a very rewarding program to see the growth in the kids, but the main thing about our program is the lifelong bond that is made between a student and the mentor. Help a local cancer patient

The family of Brittan Schmidt, who has a rare form of brain cancer, has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses as he undergoes treatment. Donations can be dropped off at Sterling Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Brewster.

Developmental screening

Bridgeport School District Special Services Program provides free developmental screening for all students residing in the district age 3-21. If you suspect your child has a disability please contact Raelynn or Mayra at 686-5656 to schedule a screening.

Hoops for Hope

Registration is open for the third annual Hoops for Hope 3 on 3 basketball tournament. All proceeds will go to The Support Center. It will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Okanogan Jr./Sr. High School, 244 5th Ave. N. Divisions include third and fourth grade boys and girls, fifth and sixth grade boys and girls, seventh and eighth grade boys and girls, high school co-ed and adults co-ed. Need your diploma or GED?
