Christmas at the Confluence Dec. 17

Posted
Santa Claus himself (with assistance from Mrs. Claus, of course) will light the Christmas tree during the annual town Christmas celebration in Pateros; Christmas at the Confluence is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Pateros Memorial Park.

That's when Pateros Chamber of Commerce members will start serving the hot chocolate and cookies; it's December, it's dark and it's cold, so the Pateros Fire Department will have some nice campfires (in fire pits, of course) already blazing. There will be Christmas music (maybe even caroling) and the crew from Lake Pateros Rentals will offer hay rides.

Santa and Mrs. Claus (be warned, kids; last year Santa brought his good list and his bad list with him) will arrive in the park at about 6 p.m. There's not much reindeer parking around Pateros so Santa will be forced to leave the sleigh at the North Pole, but the Pateros Fire Department has graciously offered to give him and the missus a ride to the park. Santa will light the tree first thing, then he's available for consultation on Christmas wishes. There's a bag of candy for every kid, courtesy of the Chamber.

There's also a Christmas coloring contest for children 10 years of age and under, with the winners announced during the party. The pictures are available at school or can be picked up at Pateros City Hall or from participating Chamber businesses downtown.

There are four age groups, including four years of age and under, kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade and fourth and fifth grade. The winner in each age group will receive a $10 gift certificate good at participating businesses in Pateros. The entries will be displayed in businesses around town during the Christmas season.

There will be a raffle for a Pateros-centric gift basket, with the winner drawn during the party. It will include gift certificates from participating Pateros merchants. Participants and a list of prizes will be announced. Tickets will be $1 and will be available at Pateros City Hall and at participating businesses.
