The Great Will Charlton Heston is not dead and buried

Posted

China has the Great Wall and we, our Great Will ... as in, "Will the new trade war bring back the Great Depression?
Locally, "Will tariffs on aluminum bring Alcoa back to the Wenatchee Valley? Will tariffs on steel bring back the glory days of American heavy industry? China has had the Great Wall for a few years now, say 2,300 of them. It is about 13,000 miles long when all its segments are added up. It took millennia to build. It remains today as perhaps the single greatest building on earth. It is viewable from space. After all of those accolades, make no mistake about it, the wall did not work to keep out the invading Mongol hordes.
Now we have a life with nothing but question marks. When will Johnny leave the basement for good?
When will the Seahawks get back into the Super Bowl? Will Dennis Rodman be selected as the first American ambassador to North Korea?
Will tariffs cause the Apocalypse Now or merely delay the inevitable ushering-in of the new Chinese Empire? Here is the real rub. Now we are attacking our closest allies - Canada and Europe. If you hurt your friends, are they still friends? Is this some perverse iteration of tough love?
Creating this unnecessary friction with our brothers will not sit well with the ghosts of Truman, Marshall or Reagan. We rebuilt Europe to the benefit of all and created NATO for the benefit of the world and it worked.
Now we have become the world as envisioned by Steve Bannon. The man who said, and is advising, to deconstruct the entire status quo. Destroy all semblance of sensible cultural norms so it can be brought back bigger and better than ever. In this case, we are witnessing the most explosive regime in America's history since the days of Lincoln and the Civil War.
Bannon's crazy policies are now being deployed by President Trump both in  foreign and domestic affairs.
We will become best friends with Russia and we will become buddies with the Chinese and eventually we will form a modern-day Triumvirate to control the entire world - everything and everyone including Africa and South America.
The Europeans will finally realize their day has come and gone. They should still be happy since that continent and that group of "Royal" elites has been running the planet for at least the last few hundred years.
The China-Russia-America Triumvirate will gobble up several smaller neighboring countries and these three countries will eventually be known as Greater China, Greater America and Greater Russia.
Far into the future it will simply be known as "Greater CAR" and the age of Soylent Green (1973) will be upon us.
What do folks in Wenatchee really care about Steve Bannon? As much as he can be mocked as Satan's Choice, he is ironically aiding and abetting the new strongman with raccoon eyes from the tanning bed. "Make America Great Again" is the start of the new American Empire, but first we will suffer immeasurably in Blood and Treasure.
Your children and their children will fight endless skirmishes and perhaps another Great War before the dawning of the CAR Alliance. As with any birth, there will be pain before new life enters the domain of those of us mired in the status quo.
I remember watching the original Planet of the Apes (1968). At the end of the movie, we are back on the Earth of the future and it was in ruins. Don't expect the end of this reality show to be any different.
BTW - Charlton Heston starred in both movies and went on to become the President of the NRA. He was also a World War II veteran (Midway 1976) and a "man's man." Just like Ronald Reagan, Heston was a Democrat and social activist until the early 1960s when he became a conservative Republican.
Will Alcoa come back to Wenatchee?
If it does, I Will vote for Trump ... again ... and we Will all rejoice just like at the end of The Ten Commandments (1956).

Apples to Apples, Gary Begin
