Win A dream vacation to Bavaria

The Leavenworth Rotary Club is selling tickets for another dream vacation to Bavaria. Only 2,500 tickets will be sold, so purchase your tickets from a Rotarian or stop by The Leavenworth Echo, 215-14th St. or call 509-548-5286. Upper Valley Museum closed

Wellington Tours

Plan to visit the site of the March 1, 1910 avalanche that swept two trains off their tracks, killing 96 people, still considered the worst avalanche in United States History. This popular narrated tour will stop at sites along the Stevens Pass Highway that were significant to Great Northern Railway history, including Wellington. The event will be hosted by the Upper Valley Museum in Leavenworth. The tour will leave the Icicle Village Resort at 9:30 a.m. and return between 3:30 and 4 p.m. The dates are Aug. 7, 8, 21 and 22. Vacation Bible School

Leavenworth Village Voices Season Opener Picnic

Leavenworth Village Voices invites individuals who love to sing and who may be interested in joining the group to a picnic on Monday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. in Lion's Club Park in Leavenworth. Attendees can learn more about the choir while enjoying food, beverages, and singing with current members. Rehearsals for the new season will begin on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church. Historical Walking Tour of Leavenworth

The Upper Valley Museum will be sponsoring another of many historical tours Saturday, Aug. 8. Others will be second Saturday of each month and run through October. We will meet at the Upper Valley Museum at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The tour will be about 1-2 hours and will be about a couple of miles on flat ground. There will be a donation of $3 fee. Wenatchee River Nature Quest

A free, fun day for kids and families to learn about fish, birds, plants and tiny aquatic insects that depend on our river and help keep it healthy. A mix of guided and self-guided activities for all ages means all families will have a great day of fun and learning by the Wenatchee River. Pack a lunch and enjoy a summer picnic overlooking the river. Youth Football Camp

For their senior project, Tristan Zucktriegel and Dylan Scott are hosting a youth football camp for kids in the Cascade School District going into third through sixth grades, Aug. 6-8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the high practice field, behind the bus barn on Titus Road. We are going to teach kids the advanced fundamentals of football and how to play safely and have fun at the same time. There will be raffles, prizes, free snacks and Gatorade. Among the prizes: a pair of youth football gloves and a Marshawn Lynch Seahawks jersey. Cost is $35, with all proceeds sgoing toward the CHS football team. Red Cross Blood Drive

The Leavenworth Red Cross Blood Drive, hosted by the United Methodist Women and the Nazarene Church, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 111 Ski Hill Drive, Leavenworth. CM Home and Garden Tour

Cascade Medical Foundation presents its 20th Annual Home and Garden Tour on Saturday, Sept. 19 from noon to 5 p.m. This year's tour will take place in the Leavenworth area featuring seven unique and lovely homes. Tickets are $20 per person and will be on sale at the Cascade Medical admitting desk and on the Cascade Medical Foundation's website beginning Sept. 1 and at any home the day of the tour. 'Don't Look Away' at Leavenworth Library

What if the forces behind events are not as they appear? Linda Stever's latest release, "Don't Look Away," is a lyric novel in which three stories intertwine across space and time, examining the unexplainable influences that redefine and transform our lives. Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is short of drivers. We are looking for a few good men or women, who want to volunteer to pick up the senior meals up in Leavenworth and deliver to Cashmere seniors, that need some help with preparing their meals. Knight Fright Ride

Registration is underway for the inaugural Knight Fright Ride sponsored by the Wenatchee Valley College Alumni Association. The costume-themed ride takes place Oct. 10 and offers a pair of options for cyclists - a 10-mile course and a 40-mile course. If you register before Aug. 17, the cost is $25 for the 10-mile ride or $40 for the 40-mile route. All proceeds benefit the Wenatchee Valley College scholarship fund. Wenatchee Valley Erratics

Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, 127 South Mission, Wenatchee. We are again honored to have as our speaker Vic Baker, Professor of Planetary Sciences and Geosciences, U. of Arizona-Tucson. In early July this year Dr. Baker was the keynote speaker at an international geomorphology conference held in Barnaul, Siberia, that concerned ice-age megaflooding.
