Red Cross Blood Drive

Future kindergartners invited to open house

Future Vale Elementary School kindergartners - and their parents - are invited to an open house at 6 p.m. May 23. Parents are asked to pick up a registration packet at the school office before the event. The office is open from 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Kindergarten and preschool registration for students in the Cashmere School District who will be age 4 (for preschool) and 5 (for kindergarten) by Aug. 31, 2016, starts April 11.

CMS sixth-grade play tickets on sale now

Evening performances for Cashmere Middle School's sixth grade musical production of "Tumbleweeds," will be held Wednesday, March 30 and Thursday, March 31 in the CMS auditorium. Performances begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 each, or $8 for both performances with the same reserved seat. Reserved tickets can be purchased from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the middle school office. No exchanges or refunds will be made after the purchase of reserved or general admission tickets. General admission tickets may be purchased at the door on March 30 and 31. Box office doors will open at 6 p.m. For information, call the middle school at 782-2001.

Library offers bilingual story time

A bilingual story time, "Cuentos en Español," is offered at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Peshastin Public Library, 8396 Main St., Peshastin. Bi-lingual story time is for anyone who loves a good story. It's also fun for those who are learning Spanish or English.

Summit explains salmon and steelhead seasons

The third annual Salmon and Steelhead Summit is at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 24 at the Chelan County Public Utility District auditorium in Wenatchee. Learn some of the complexities of how salmon and steelhead seasons are established for the Columbia River and its tributaries. See underwater video of salmon and steelhead in Columbia River tributaries, hear projections for the 2016 runs, and have your questions answered by regional fish biologists. Call 548-7662. The summit also serves as a replacement for the Icicle Valley Trout Unlimited's March chapter meeting.

YoungLives plans silent auction and fashion show

The fifth Annual YoungLives Silent Auction and Fashion Show is from 2 to 4 p.m. April 26 at the Pybus Events Center. Teen moms and their babies will be modeling. Speaker is Shauna Edwards who is Spokane Young Lives' Coordinator. Tickets are $10 per person and will be available at Encouraging Words, YL House or they can contact Karen at 679-0046. All funds raised are used to send teenage girls to Young Life Camp.

Flood Zone Control District meets today at CTC

The FCZD Participatory Stakeholder Meeting 8 will be held at the Confluence Technology Center Wednesday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. These meetings are open to the public, who are welcomed to comment on items specific to the current agenda. Kennel club offers dog temperament tests

The Wenatchee Kennel Club is scheduling dog temperament tests on Saturday, April 23 at the Rock Island Village at Rock Island Dam. Dogs must be at least 1 year old. Three tests are being offered. The "Dog Temperament Test" is administered by an evaluator from the German Shepherd Dog Club of Washington. It uses seven stations with various activities at each station. The other canine tests include "Canine Good Citizen," which establish the dog's ability to be well-behaved in public, and "Therapy Dog International," often required for dogs visiting nursing homes, hospitals, clinics and libraries to help humans in recovery, rehabilitation and other challenges. Nonprofit grant writing workshop coming to Wenatchee and Twisp

The Nonprofit Practices Institute (a partnership of the Community Foundation of NCW and the Icicle Fund) is hosting "The Ultimate Grants Toolkit" - an interactive workshop to guide nonprofit organizations through the grant writing process.

Facilitated by Maryn Boess of Grants USA, this workshop is designed for new and seasoned grant writers, covering mission-centered grant-seeking, planning, research, and methods for writing a winning proposal. Participants will receive a comprehensive toolkit and reference guide containing all the topics covered during the workshop.

"The Ultimate Grants Toolkit" will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee and Thursday, April 14 at Aero Methow in Twisp. Registration is $15 and includes lunch.

SweetHearts for Kids celebrates 15 years

Celebrate the 15th anniversary of Children's Home Society of Washington's SweetHearts for Kids benefit luncheon, sponsored by Numerica Credit Union and Premier One Properties, on April 13 at the Wenatchee Convention Center, 121 N. Wenatchee Ave. Westside High School Principal Kory Kalahar will serve as the keynote speaker.

GWATA announces nominees for Innovator Awards luncheon

GWATA, the NCW Technology Alliance will host the 16th Annual Innovator Awards from noon to 1:30 p.m. March 29th at the Wenatchee Convention Center. During the Innovator Awards Luncheon, GWATA will present several awards showcasing entrepreneurship, innovation, and education.

Nominees for all GWATA Innovator Awards are community driven. This year's nominees for Entrepreneur of the Year Award are: ApRecs; Castle & Bay; Digital Media Northwest; Express Employment Professionals; Firehouse Pet Shop; NCW Life; The Salcido Connection; Tumbleweed Bead Co.; and Voortex Productions.

GWATA received a record number of nominations for Innovative Use of Technology in the Classroom and for Future Technology Leader.

This year's luncheon theme is virtual reality and its emerging business applications. Keynote speaker is Ari Hollander, CTO and co-founder of DeepStream VR, a startup company that is disrupting the $38B healthcare industry using immersive technology.
