Writers invited

to 'Four Minutes

of Fame'

Write On The River invites writers to share their work at "Four Minutes of Fame" at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10. at Milepost 111,407 Aplets Way, Cashmere. Dan Gemeinhart, Cashmere resident and author of the middle grade novels, "The Honest Truth" and "Some Kind of Courage" will read from his latest book. Also reading will be Derek Sheffield, Leavenworth resident and author of a book of poems, "Through the Second Skin." Both Gemeinhart and Sheffield will also be presenting at the annual Write On The River conference May 13-15. For conference information and to register online, go to www.writeontheriver.org.

Kiwanis Club fundraiser benefits Torres family

Wacoka Kiwanis Club of Cashmere will be having its annual St. Patrick's Corned Beef and Cabbage or Beef Stew Dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Vale Elementary School. Tickets for the dinner are $8 per person, $30 per family. Each ticket will earn one raffle ticket, plus raffle tickets will be for sale at the door for $1 each. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Dionicio Torres Family. Dionicio Torres suffered a stroke last fall and has been unable to work since then. He is currently in a Seattle Hospital with brain swelling. Dionicio and his wife Angelica have seven children. Community Taize service planned

A community Taize service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Cashmere United Methodist Church, 213 S. Division St., Cashmere. All are invited to join the quiet service of music, silence, candlelight, prayer and scripture.

American Legion Auxiliary President visits March 15

Sharon Conatser, American Legion Auxiliary National President from Illinois, will be in Cashmere on Tuesday, March 15 at the Cashmere American Legion Hall, 401 Sunset Highway for a buffet luncheon. Social hour is at 12:30 p.m., with the lunch at 1 p.m. Any interested in hearing her speak are invited to attend. Cost by donation with proceeds going toward the American Legion Flag Pole Fund. Library offers bilingual story time

A bilingual story time, "Cuentos en Español," is offered at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Peshastin Public Library, 8396 Main St., Peshastin. Bi-lingual story time is for anyone who loves a good story. It's also fun for those who are learning Spanish or English. Leavenworth

Library event introduces "American Copper"

A gripping epic of the Montana frontier, "American Copper," by Shann Ray explores the genocidal colonization of the Cheyenne and the rise of big copper, is the topic at a free event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Leavenworth Public Library, 700 U.S. Highway 2, Leavenworth. Call 548-7923.

Empty Bowls Art Grants available

Are you an elementary teacher, middle/high school art, music or drama teacher, or community member who works creatively with local students? Apply for an Empty Bowls Art Grant. Genealogical society learns about regional archives

The Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society will meet at 2 p.m., Monday, March 14, at the Douglas County PUD Auditorium, 1151 Valley Mall Parkway, East Wenatchee. Brigid Clift, archivist at the Central Regional Branch of the State Archives in Ellensburg, will present the program, "Get to Know Your Regional Archives." For information, call 884-6455. YoungLives plans silent auction and fashion show
