Donations sought for fireworks

The Brewster Volunteer Firemen are soliciting donations for the annual fireworks show, presented each year on July 4. Donation fire boots-real fire boots but nice clean new ones-will be distributed in businesses around town this week, said Brewster Fire Chief Mike Webster. The last couple of years the firefighters have raised enough money to present a $10,000 show; that's their goal again this year, Webster said. People can send donations to PO Box 335, Brewster, WA 98812 or they can be dropped off to Jim McChristian at Pro Hardware in Brewster.

Okanogan County pioneers and people interested in Brewster area history are being invited to the third annual "Pie Social" Saturday, June 21 at 1 p.m. at the historic Fries homestead, 549 Valley Road, Brewster. This year he will have information on the Utt cattle ranch. Pioneer Richard Hanson, born on the Hanson homestead in 1916, plans to attend the 2008 gathering. Participants are asked to bring a favorite pie, a chair and pictures and memories of pioneer days. "Margi (Allen) and Keith (Zielke) will provide the ice cream, table settings and beverages," Margi said. People who want more information can contact Margi in Brewster.
