Bearacudas head to Toppenish AAU Regionals

BREWSTER – The Bearacudas, one of four teams in the Okanogan County AAU Summer Swim League, are entering their third week of competition that will culminate in the county championships July 27.

This weekend, however, all four teams, the Bearacudas, Omak Manta Rays, Okanogan Bullfrogs, and Methow Valley Killer Whales will come together to form the Okanogan County Swim Team to compete in the AAU Regionals at Toppenish on Saturday, July 13.

Last Saturday, July 6, 40 Bearacudas met their three county opponents at the Okanogan pool where coach Stephanie Bultman said, “we held our own with the number of athletes we had.”

Bultman has 72 swimmers this season, 19 of them new to the team.

“Of those, our 9-10 girls, 11-12 girls, and 13-14 girls’ relays are looking really strong and competitive this summer,” Bultman said.

The competitions are day-long events and include 119 different age groups and events and many of those with multiple heats.

Bultman has been a Bearacudas coach for eight years along with mother, Sheryl Bultman who was a volunteer and coach for the team when Stephanie was swimming for the team.

“We couldn’t make it work without the rest of the families and parents that are helping out,” Bultman said.
Okanogan County is sending 31 athletes to the Toppenish meet.

“This is the biggest team for the Toppenish swim meet that we have had for quite a while,” Bultman said.
Katie Labanauskas from the Killer Whales will join Bultman to coach the Toppenish team.

The Bearacudas will be at Omak, Tuesday, July 16, and compete at the Omak Invitational on Saturday, July 20. Brewster will host Okanogan on Tuesday, July 23, before the championships at the Twisp pool on Saturday, July 27.
