Brewster Chamber reviews Halloween, Christmas events

Posted

Brewster – Halloween, Best of the Best nominations, chamber officer elections, and Christmas events were among topics discussed at the regular monthly meeting of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday, Oct. 12 at its Brewster Senior Center headquarters.

Senior Center President Charlene Knox, owner of the Rusty Relic at 400 Indian Ave. W., was presented a Certificate of Appreciation for her support of this year’s Brewster Salmon Derby.

Chamber president Mike Mauk announced that P1FCU at 112 Seventh St. N. is sponsoring the trophies and posters for the Halloween Trick or Treat on Main Street and costume contest with a $200 donation.

The Senior Center will host a chili and corn bread feed from 5-7 p.m. on Halloween night.

''We will pre-sell tickets available to purchase at either the senior center or Rusty Relic,” said Knox, “$6 for adults and $4.50 for children 10 and under. We’re not doing desserts because of the  candy.”

The center will also hold a pumpkin-carving contest. Entrants can begin bringing their already-carved pumpkins to the center at 3:30 p.m. Halloween day. Knox said she is considering two categories, 14-and under and 15-and -older.

“You have little kids that cannot carve like adults can,” said Knox. “An eight-year-old child can’t compete with a 40-year-old artist.”

Pumpkins will be numbered so those voting will not know who carved what.

In other business the chamber:

• Called for chamber members to submit nominations for new chamber officers for 2023. Nominations will be presented at the next regular chamber meeting in November.

• Requested nominations for 2022 Brewster Best of the Best citizen and businesses nominations. Submissions are due Nov. 20. Visit brewsterwachamber.com/awards-nominations online to vote your choice.

• Reminded members that Small Business Saturday is Nov. 25 this year.
