Columbia River Quilt Guild will honor three veterans at APJ

Posted

PATEROS – Three veterans of military service will each receive a quilt from members of the Columbia River Quilt Guild during this weekend’s Apple Pie Jamboree.

Pat McFadden of Bridgeport, Glenn Farrington of Brewster, and Wayne Maitland of Pateros will receive Veterans Quilts at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, following the parade and National Anthem.

The presentation will be part of the Guild’s 20th annual Outdoor Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the APJ.

“The Guild wanted to find a way to acknowledge and give back to local veterans for their unwavering service to America,” said spokesperson Lisa Schluneger. “So, a few years ago we started making Veterans’ Quilts to present to local veterans. The Guild makes quilt blocks from its own stash and from donated material and then combines them into quilts for veterans.”

Schluneger said the Guild will also present a Veteran’s Quilt to a Mansfield veteran on Veteran’s Day in November.

Each year the Columbia River Quilt Guild sponsors a quilt raffle to raise funds to support youth and community causes.
