Enthusiastic readers win bikes in Pateros Bikes for Books contest

Posted
Yamile Acension and Taggert Easter both spent part of their summer reading books and both won bikes as a result. They were the winners of the summer Bikes for Books contest at the Pateros Public Library, sponsored by the Brewster chapter of the Masons.

For two or three summers now the Masons have purchased and donated brand-new bikes to the Brewster and Pateros libraries; kids qualify to win them by reading books. In Pateros, children had to read at least 10 hours to qualify for the drawing, but Yamile and Taggert did much better than that-Taggert read for at least 20 hours, and Yamile read for 30 hours. They both love to read, said librarian Janice Darlington.

The Brothers of the Craft/Hermanos del Arte chapter of the Masons donates at least two bikes each year to the Brewster, Bridgeport and Pateros schools for fall and spring Bikes for Books drawings, and to the libraries in the summer.
