Anna Williams stages one-woman 14th team place at state track championships

CHENEY – Pateros High School freshman Anna Williams, competing as the only Pateros athlete with the Brewster track and field team finished with an overall 14th place among 33 1B teams at the WIAA !B, 2B, 1A State Championship Meet at Eastern Washington University May 24-26.
Placing in four events, Williams finished tied with Northport with 16.5 team points, a half-point behind Glenwood and 1.5 points ahead of Evergreen Lutheran.
Williams finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 13.45 seconds, and third in the 200M with a personal record time of 26.48. Williams added a seventh-place finish in the long jump at 15 feet, 5.75 inches and cleared the high jump bar at 4’6” for eighth place.
The Brewster boys placed 16th among 41 teams with 15 points. The Bridgeport girls were 21st with 12 points and the Brewster girls 25th with 5.5 points.
Brewster track coach Greg Austin noted some highlights of his athletes:
• Ernie Nanamkin placed second in his 400M final at 52.18. Nanamkin finished fifth in javelin at 156’9” and medaled in the long jump at 19’10.5”.
• Karste Wright placed third in high jump.
• Alfredo Nila took second in the shot put with a PR throw of 43’8”.
• Oscar Guzman ran a PR in the 1600M with a time of 4:58.08.
