Bears beat 1A Chelan in non-conference season opener

CHELAN – The Brewster Bears varsity boys and girls basketball teams opened their season with a pair of wins on the road against the Caribou League’s Chelan Goats on Nov. 29.

The Brewster girls won 43-32, and the boys 74-64.

“We started out the game playing efficiently and were aggressive with our traditional offense,” said Bears head coach Michael Taylor. “We continued this effort in the second quarter as well, but Chelan also picked up their offensive attack and cut into our lead.”

Brewster led at halftime, 54-41.

“The second half, both teams played better on defense and were more physical, making offense less efficient causing our scoring output to be cut in half,” said Taylor. “I think some fatigue set in, so we will need to get in better condition, but overall it was a good start for us and a good win.”

The Bears will host Liberty Bell on Thursday, Nov. 8, for their first home game.
