Bears claim CW2B, Bi-District 5/6 titles

CHELAN – The Brewster Bears grabbed the Bi-District 5/6 championship and No. 1 seed to Regional competition with an 84-70 win over Kittitas in Quincy Jackrabbit Stadium last Saturday, Feb. 22. Four days earlier the Bears won the Central Washington 2B league title with a 70-48 revenge victory over Lake Roosevelt at Chelan and secured their Regional appearance.

Brewster set a fast and furious pace against the Coyotes who were the Bears’ state spoilers the past two years. Behind the 14 first-quarter points of senior Corey Jarrell, Brewster caught the Coyotes flat-footed and built an 18-point, 28-10 lead in the opening eight minutes. That left Kittitas in a deep hole that even the game-high 36 points from Coyote Justin Hudson in the second half wasn’t enough to catch the Bears who led by as much as 20 points down the stretch.
Cade Gebbers led Brewster with 22 points.
Brewster will play in the Spokane Arena on Feb. 28 or 29 against a Regional opponent that was undetermined at press time.

Brewster claimed the CW2B crown with a 22-point win over the Raiders on Feb. 18.
The Bears held Lake Roosevelt to a single-digit first quarter while they opened an 11-point 18-7 lead. The Raiders gained some ground in the second quarter closing the gap by two points, 29-20, at halftime.
The third quarter was a repeat of the first as the Bears outscored Lake Roosevelt, 18-7, and kept the pressure on to win by their largest margin of the game. Corey Jarrell and Cade Gebbers led Brewster with 22 and 2o points respectively. Connor Ashworth and Kade Kelpman each pulled down 11 rebounds.
“I thought it was the most complete effort our team has given this year,” said coach Michael Taylor, but that was before the Bears met Kittitas. “We had some stagnant possessions in the (first) half, but because of good effort and focus on the defensive end we battled to a halftime lead.”
