BREWSTER – The Bears varsity soccer team, led by the hat-trick performance of senior midfielder, Edgar Najera, took avenged an opening season loss to the non-league Chelan Goats with a 5-3 win at home last Tuesday, April 4.
Chelan handed Brewster a 4-2 loss on March 14 and intended to make it two in a row as the 1A Goats took a 2-0 toward halftime.
Coach Jenner Sanon said junior Rodrigo Gomez headed a Najera kick into the net just before the first half ended to put Brewster on the board, 2-1.
Najera scored two of his three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the Bears up, 3-2.
Chelan knotted the game at 3-3 with more than half the second period remaining but could not convert down the stretch. Meanwhile, junior Felix Nava put Brewster ahead 4-3 before Najera added his third goal in the final minutes of the game.
The Bears remain undefeated at 3-0 in the Central Washington 2B League while Chelan stands at third in the Caribou Trail League.
Brewster was scheduled to play Liberty Bell at home Tuesday, April 11. The Bears will play at Bridgeport on Thursday, April 13, and host Manson at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday, April 18.
