BREWSTER – Two of the best football teams in the Central Washington 2B League clashed on Champion Field last Friday, April 2, and did not disappoint as the undefeated Brewster Bears hosted 3-1 Lake Roosevelt in their final game of the season.
The Raiders jumped out to an early 6-0 lead three minutes into the first quarter when a 40-yard pass from quarterback Hunter Whitelaw found an open receiver in the Bears’ end zone for six points. The two-point conversion attempt failed. Lake Roosevelt struck again with 2:09 remaining on the first quarter clock to go up 14-0 when a two-point conversion was successful.
The Bears found their mojo with less than a minute to play when senior running back Gio Nila crossed the Raiders’ goal line for Brewster’s first score.
Lake Roosevelt scored early in the second quarter but could feel the pressure from the Bears as they closed the gap 22-18 by halftime. Brewster owned the second half as senior Logan McGuire scored on a Kelson Gebbers pass play and among other scores Nila ran for another TD. Final score was 46-22.
