Bears secure playoff berth with 44-22 won over Tonasket

BREWSTER – Playing their first home game of the season on the newly renovated Champion Field the Brewster Bears varsity football team defeated the visiting Tonasket Tigers, 44-22, and guaranteed a spot in the CWB-2B playoffs this season.
Spectators watched the game from expanded grandstand seating and over a new track the now encloses the football field. Many wore pink in support of the school’s Cancer Awareness Fundraiser.
The Bears warmed up for their home opener with four earlier games, three against non-league opponents and one against a tough Okanogan team that moved from the 1A Caribou Trail League down to the 2B this season. The Bulldogs dealt Brewster a 55-13 loss on their home field Oct. 1 and will not meet the Bears again until the playoff rounds. Brewster dropped its three non-league games against Chelan, 41-12, on Sept. 3, Omak, 54-29, on Sept. 10, and Cascade, 40-22, on Sept. 17.
“Everyone in our league will have a cross over game with Bi-County league,” said head coach Travis Todd

The Bears are looking ahead to host league rival Manson for Homecoming this Friday, Oct. 15, Oroville, originally scheduled to play the Bears Oct. 22, had to cancel due to COVID.
“They are unsure if they can finish their season,” said Todd. “Those games against Oroville will be counted as a forfeit win.”

 Brewster will face Lake Roosevelt on the road for their final regular season game on Oct. 29.
