BREWSTER – The doubleheader between visiting Lake Roosevelt Raiders and host Brewster last Monday, April 10, might have been closer between the third place 5-5 Raiders and undefeated Bears If Lake Roosevelt would have had more bench to draw on. As it was, with only one player to spare, had a long afternoon as the host team cruised to 15-0, and 16-0 final scores.
“We really have some kids dialed in at the plate right now,” said head coach Todd Phillips. “Our younger kids and the bottom of our lineup have really been getting the job done.”
Turk Riggan got Brewster on the board first when he scored on a ground-out RBI by Caiden Riggan.
Then the Bears “blew things open in the third in one of the best hitting performances I have ever witnessed in a single inning,” said Phillips. “We just crushed the ball in line drive after line drive.”
Brewster scored 11 runs in the third on top of two runs in the second and added another four in the fourth inning.
Quincy Vassar had a good performance on the mound, allowing only one runner to reach base while throwing Brewster’s fifth no-hitter of the year.
There were no homers in the first game, but Joe Taylor hit six triples. Kade Kelpman and Turk Riggan his four doubles apiece and Jorge Ramirez hit one.
Kelpman took the mound for game two.
“He is quickly approaching being the winningest pitcher I have ever coached after throwing his second consecutive one-hitter,” said Phillips of Kelpman.
Corey Jarrell hit five doubles, while Taylor and Ramirez slapped two each. Kelpman tripled twice.
The Bears were scheduled to play at Liberty Bell on Tuesday, April 10, and travel to Cedar Park Christian in Bothell on Saturday, April 14. Brewster will then host Liberty Bell at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 17.
