Bears teams make their bids for state playoffs

BREWSTER – The Bears cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball teams either competed at or played to qualify for state last Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5.

Football

The Bears took their 4-1 league record on the road to RPI No. 7 Chewelah on Friday, Nov. 4 for District 7 crossover game and a shot at making the state playoffs. They came within a touchdown of making that happen but fell to the Cougars, 21-14, on a snow-covered playing field. 

Soccer

The varsity girls soccer team dropped its district 7 crossover game to RPI No. 11 Davenport, 3-2, last Saturday, Nov. 5 in Quincy to close out their season. The Bears defeated Liberty Bell, 1-0, at Quincy on Nov. 2 to advance to the crossover game against the Gorillas.

Volleyball

The Bears are headed to state at the Yakima SunDome Nov. 10 along with Manson and Okanogan. Brewster gave the RPI No. 2 Trojans a battle for the district championship at Omak last Saturday, Nov. 5 but came out on the short end of a 3-1 final.

On Nov. 1 the Bears blanked Liberty Bell 3-0, in their first post-season district game to gain a rematch against the Okanogan. The Bears and Bulldogs who split a pair of conference matches earlier in the season. The teams met for the third time on Nov. 3, where Brewster staged a nail-biting comeback from 0-2 against a tough opponent to win the match, 3-2, and clinch a state appearance.
