Billygoats, Nannies lose to Shockers on the road

Posted

WATERVILLE – The road was not kind to the Pateros varsity basketball teams last Thursday, Dec. 14 as both the Billygoats and Nannies came up short against the Waterville-Mansfield Shockers
“Pateros lost a tough one,” said boys’ varsity coach Marcus Stennes of his team’s eight-point, 58-50 loss to the Shockers. “We gave up too many offensive rebounds (17) and struggled from behind the arc (6-23).
Junior Andrew Gonzalez and sophomore Ethan Freels both scored in double digits to lead Pateros with 11 points each. Senior Logan Robinson pulled down seven rebounds and junior guard Tag Easter had six steals.
After trailing from the opening tipoff and being 12 points down at halftime, the Billygoats battled back to take the lead late in the fourth quarter with two minutes remaining on the clock. However, costly turnovers and a couple of key baskets by Waterville-Mansfield turned the momentum back in the Shockers’ favor.
“We learned some valuable lessons about time management and using the clock to our benefit,” Stennes said.
The Nannies lost to the Lady Shockers, 59-21
Pateros was scheduled to host Central Washington 1B league rival Riverside Christian on Tuesday, Dec. 19, and travel to Oroville to play the Hornets on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Pateros will host Bridgeport on Thursday, Dec. 28, with the girls’ varsity starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
