Billygoats take varsity tennis on the road

PATEROS – The Billygoats varsity tennis team played an exhibition against the 1A Chelan Goats of the Caribou Trail League on Thursday, March 15, and made good account of themselves said Pateros head coach Sean Hiltz.
Hiltz only has three boys to make up his team this season, but all have two years’ worth of varsity experience.
Junior San Larsen played three matches against Chelan’s No. 5, 6, and 7 ranked players.
Sophomore Ivan Ceniceros took on the Goats’ top two players.
Freshman Aiden Hall squared off against Chelan’s No. 3 and 4 players.
“We were able to hit with them and we won quite a few matches,” Hiltz said of the 3-2 to loss to the Goats.
Ceniceros is the only one of the Pateros players to make it to the second weekend of District competition last year, Hiltz said, but all three of his boys should be competitive with the smaller schools.
Pateros has always had a tennis team and usually a good-sized one, said Hiltz of the usual dozen to 15 player average. This year however not a single girl turned out for the team.
At Lake Roosevelt, Friday, March 16, Pateros added a player, Colton Quinn, and had three close matches on the way to a 3-1 loss.
Ceniceros lost to the Raiders’ Malcolm Carson, 7-9.
Aidan Hall defeated Aidan Derr, 8-5.
Sam Larson fell to Bradley Wilder, 7-9.
Quinn lost 0-8 to Tucker Keeley.
At Cascade Monday, March 19, Ceniceros lost his first singles match to Finn Johnson, 3-8. The second match was closer, but also went to Cascade’s Sam Keziah.
In a doubles match, Larsen and Hall teamed up in two losses to Giovanni Luchesi and Raven Dawson, 3-6, and 5-7.
Pateros will play in the Okanogan Mixer Thursday, March 22, and host Omak at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 23. The Billygoats will travel to Entiat on Tuesday, March 27.
