Brewster Bears place first at Liberty Bell track meet

WINTHROP – Teams from Brewster, Liberty Bell, Omak, Bridgeport, Oroville, Pateros, Lake Roosevelt, and Almira-Coulee-Hartline competed at the season’s second North Central Washington track meet held at Liberty Bell High School on April 22. When the 16 running and field events were completed the Brewster Bears led the points total with 120.33, the Bridgeport Mustangs were third with 93, and Pateros sixth with 36.33.
On the girls’ side the Bridgeport Fillies placed second behind winner Omak (138.5) with 103.75 points, Brewster’s Lady Bears were fourth with 40, and Pateros fifth with 29.5.
First place performances included Brewster’s Gio Nila with personal record 43-feet, 8 inches in the shot put and the Bears 4x400 relay team.
Anna Williams of Pateros won the 100 meters and teammate Josh Smith took the 200.
Bridgeport’s Israel Lopez won the 110-meter hurdles, and Cecilia Avila the women’s 100M version. Miriam Jimenez took the 3200 meters, the Mustangs and Fillies both won their respective 4x100 relays, Verania Velazquez won the girls’ shot, Karla Torres the javelin, and Drake Morris the triple jump for Bridgeport.
The next meet is scheduled to be held on May 6 when Manson hosts the North Region Championships. The NCW Sub-Regional meet is scheduled for May 14 at a location to be announced, and the NCW Region Championship the following day.
