YAKIMA – The Lady Bears varsity softball team saw its quest for a state trophy end with two losses and elimination on the way to a shot at third and fourth place last week.

Brewster fell to Chewelah, 13-7, in the round of 16, on Friday, May 24. The loss dropped the Lady Bears into the consolation bracket while the Lady Cougars advanced to eventual fourth place at state.

In the round of eight competing for a shot at third and fourth place, Brewster eliminated Liberty Christian, 13-11, in a Friday afternoon game to keep their hopes alive for a trophy. Those hopes were dashed when Northwest Christian (Colbert), the eventual third-place winner, knocked the Lady Bears out of contention, 12-1, on Saturday, May 25.
Brewster finished the regular season with a 15-1 league record and 20-4 overall. They lost two of three games in District play, a 17-4 loss to Kittitas, 13-3 win over Liberty Christian and 8-4 loss to Lake Roosevelt. The Lady Bears entered state play as a fourth seed.

Ada won the state crown with Pe Ell second, Northwest Christian (Colbert) third and Chewelah fourth.
