Brewster teams shine in state championship competition

Bears down Ducks, 5-2

EPHRATA/YAKIMA – The Brewster High School varsity teams that qualified for state competition made their mark on the record books and in personal best performances last weekend, May 25-27.

The defending state champion Bears baseball team finished third in state following a semifinal loss in extra innings to Tri-Cities Prep, 6-4, on Friday, May 26. They faced last year’s playoff opponent, Toutle Lake, and polished of the Ducks, 5-2, to place third behind Adna, and Tri-Cities.

The 10th ranked Brewster girls met No. 7 Forks in the round of 16 at Yakima on Friday, May 26, and saw their run to state with a 13-4 loss to the Loggers.

Track & Field

Bears junior Cort Gebbers displayed the dominance he has shown all season on both shot put and discus events at the state track and field championships in Yakima last weekend. Gebbers set a personal record with his first-place discus throw of 50 feet, 6.5 inches.

Junior Gimena Hurtado threw a personal best distance of 116 feet, 6.5 inches for second place and a new Brewster school record.

Junior Kaydence Carrington placed fourth in the 1600 meters.
