Brewster win ties Tonasket on CW2B ladder with 4-2 record

TONASKET – The Brewster Bears varsity football team beat Tonasket, 24-21, on its home turf last Friday, Oct. 13, to pull even with the Tigers on the Central Washington 2B League ladder with identical 4-2 league records.
“Yes, it was an exciting win,” said Brewster coach Jake Johanson. “It was awesome to see our guys rally from down 14-3 and make two huge plays to score a touchdown before the half.”
Johanson said juniors Ernie Nanamkin and Joe Taylor came through with some huge offensive plays in the ball game that helped make the difference for the Bears.
Junior wide receiver, Quincy Vassar played his best game so far pulling down two big catches, said Johanson. Switching to the defensive, Vassar made another great play batting down a ball from his safety position.
“Alfredo Nila played a great game at linebacker, stuffing the run and collecting two interceptions,” said Johanson. “I am so proud of this group of guys and the resiliency that they showed in this game.”
Johanson noted that the Bears haven’t had a lot of close games. “This was a good one for us to battle and being on the winning side.”
Brewster will host 1-5 Waterville-Mansfield at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 for Homecoming.
“Waterville is a much-improved team from the beginning of the year so we need to bring our A game this week for Senior Night,” said Johanson. “We still have some things to clean up but I’m excited about the direction that we are going.”
