Hughes leads Shockers track at Ray Hughes Invitational

EPHRATA – Waterville-Mansfield’s varsity track sprinter Hannah Hughes turned in the best finish for the Shockers’ boys and girls track team at the 38-team Ray Cross Invitational held at Ephrata High School last Saturday, March 25.
Hughes placed 10th in long jump and 11th in the 100-meter dash and 12th in discus in a field that included 27 schools ranked at 1A or larger. Hughes finished among the top 11 among 67 sprinters with a time of 13.74 seconds in the 100M and 10th among 55 jumpers with a leap of 15-feet, three inches. Her discus distance of 92’1” was only bested by 2B Bridgeport’s Emily Saucedo who placed ninth.
Lexi Deishl finished 22nd in the 400 meters and 23rd in long jump.
Among the Shocker boys, Kayden Browning placed 21st in the 110M hurdles with a time of 19.57 seconds. Browning also had a 25th place time in the 300M hurdles and was 31st in high jump.
As teams, the Soap Lake girls, with nine points, and Liberty Bell with 6, were the only 2B girls to finish ahead of Waterville-Mansfield.
Nest up for the Shockers is the Ephrata JV Invite on Tuesday, April 11.
