Lady Bears beat Lake Roosevelt to earn District title shot, play TCP for first place Sat., Feb. 16, 2 p.m.

 CHELAN – The Brewster Lady Bears varsity basketball team avenged an earlier regular season loss to Lake Roosevelt by defeating the Lady Raiders, 50-41, Friday, Feb. 15, in District 5/6 semifinal play at the Chelan Community Gym. The win advances Brewster to the District championship round against Tri-Cities Prep at 2 p.m. today (Feb. 16) in the Chelan High School gym.

The Lady Bears led from the opening bell and stayed in front by several baskets through the first half, 23-17, until the middle of the fourth quarter when Lake Roosevelt gave them a scare. Brewster was ahead, 38-27 at the close of the third quarter when the Lady Raiders made their move mid-way through the final eight minutes. Lake Roosevelt dropped a couple of three-pointers to pull within four points, 40-36 with four minutes left to play and narrowed the score to 40-38.

Michaun Kelpman’s basket put Brewster ahead by four when another three by LRHS pulled the Lady Raiders within a point, 42-41. Lake Roosevelt missed a one-and-one free throw that could have tied the game, but Brewster’s Kim Nila nailed her two free throws to make the score 44-41.

Mikenna Kelpman and Sammi Emigh combined for four points to put Brewster ahead, 48-41, and Nila scored on a breakaway lay-in with seconds left to close the door, 50-41.
