Lady Bears claim Central Washington 2B League volleyball championship

BREWSTER – The Central Washington 2B League volleyball championship belongs to the Lady Bears after they handed the Tonasket Tigers, undefeated in seven league games, a three-set loss at home on Senior Night, Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Led by the perfect 28 for 28 serving of sophomore Brooklynne Boesel and the 28 combined kills between Boesel, Karste Wright and Maret Miller, Brewster allowed the Tigers to barely break double digits in the first set, 25-10. Brewster encountered a more tenacious team in the second, as Tonasket trailed the Lady Bears to a narrow 25-22 win. The second-set loss dampened Tonasket’s momentum but energized the Lady Bears who tasted the CW2B league title just one victory away and cruised to a 25-10 final.

Brewster will face Dayton or Lyle from the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in Wenatchee High School’s main gym. Also in the District 5/6 running is Tonasket, Soap Lake, and Lake Roosevelt from the CW2B and Kittitas, Tri-Cities Prep and Walla Walla Valley Academy from the EWAC.

Kittitas comes to the Bi-District playoff as the undefeated EWAC champion and second-place Dayton brings a 9-1 record.

The winner of Brewster v. Dayton or Lyle will meet the winner of Soap Lake v.Tri-Cities in the semi-final round on Nov. 2.

Throughout the season, the Lady Bears, led by an experienced varsity with five seniors on the roster, dispatched every league rival in three straight sets. Losing those veterans – Miller, Marta Martinez, Abby Urias, Zulema Sotelo, and Ana Aparicio - will pose a challenge for next year’s team and place an extra burden on Brewster’s solid core of sophomore talent, Boesel, Wright, Sammi Emigh, and Karina Martinez, and junior Elizabeth Stam.
