Lady Bears down Liberty Bell for CWB-2B league softball championship

Posted

BREWSTER – The Lady Bears varsity softball team wrapped up the Central Washington B-2B League Championship on Brewster’s home diamond Saturday, May 12, with a 12-2 win over Liberty Bell.
It was never in doubt from the first inning as Brewster jumped on the Lady Lions early and had the game in the bag by 10 runs at the end of the fifth inning.
The Lady Bears took their league-leading 15-1 regular season record into the semi-final game against 10-6 Tonasket on May 8 and stopped the Tigers in six innings, 14-4, before meeting Liberty Bell for the championship four days later.
In an unusual reversal of their typical double-digit wins over league rivals during the regular season, the Lady Bears suffered their only loss against visiting Lake Roosevelt, 3-2, when they split a doubleheader against the Raiders on April 13. Before and after that DH stand, Brewster collected a string of wins that ended in 12 runs of more scored by the Lady Bears against two runs or less scored by their rivals.
Brewster will face Tri-Cities Prep in its quarterfinal game of the District 5/6 tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Paul Lauzier Athletic Complex at Moses Lake. Tri-Cities, 7-7 in regular season play, finished fourth in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference behind undefeated Kittitas/Thorp, 11-3 Liberty Christian, and 9-3 Dayton.
If the Lady Bears win they will face the winner of Lake Roosevelt and Liberty Christian in a semifinal game at 2 p.m., one game away from the championship round later that afternoon.
